What varieties of apples are grown in Ireland?

This question is addressed both to Irish commercial orchard owners and to gardeners who may have one or two apple trees in their private garden, and is asked to growers in both the R of I and NI. Here in GB our traditional varieties incluranleysde the Cox, Discovery, Russet and Worcester and we also have newer varieties such as Cameo and Jazz. Other varieties which ere originally imported from abroad are also now grown including Braeburn, Gala and Jonagold. We have one variety, which is popular in GB but virtually unknown elsewhere, the Bramley (more correctly Bramley's Seedling). This is large and green, and rather sharp and is usually used for cooking and is delicious baked with spice and mixed vine fruit, or alternatively cooked to pure and served with piping hot custard.
