Homemade tail and mane grower?

i watched this girl at my barn put some smelly shlt in her horses mane where another horse had chewed it off. I asked her what it was and she said it was bacon grease and raw eggs:S her horses mane has grown drastically, and her tail is ALWAYS crazy long and healthy, hes a belgium warmblood. Would this really work? :S what do you think?
